Pet Owners

You can trust that your pet will be well looked after at our purpose-built referral centre, which is home to the latest facilities and caring team members with expertise in various veterinary fields.

Our services

We offer a complete in-house service, meaning you won’t need to travel elsewhere for your pet’s appointments or test results, as well as 24-hour emergency care.

Our inpatient wards have been specially designed for your pet’s comfort and close monitoring, and hold separate areas for different species to help put them at their ease.

Orthopaedics

What is orthopaedic surgery?

Orthopaedic surgery is performed on parts of a pet’s musculoskeletal system, such as their bones, muscles or joints.

We have team members who are highly experienced in orthopaedics, so you can trust that your pet will be in safe hands.

We deal with a variety of skin conditions, including:

  • Investigation and management of itchy skin conditions and skin allergies.
  • Hair loss.

  • Red and inflamed skin (which can be treated using laser therapy).

Ear clinics

Our dermatology team also offers ear clinics, where we can use diagnostic imaging tools (like MRI and CT scans) to examine your pet’s ears.

Advanced imaging can be of significant benefit in investigating and diagnosing some forms of ear disease.

Investigations and treatments for our dermatology patients are typically performed on a same-day basis, wherever possible.

Soft tissue surgery

Soft tissue surgery means operations on a pet’s soft tissue, like abdominal organs, skin, and digestive and respiratory (breathing) systems.

We have modern surgical facilities at our hospital in St Helens, Merseyside, and team members with lots of experience carrying out this type of surgery.

Internal medicine and oncology

Internal medicine involves treating illnesses that affect a pet’s organs and internal systems. This can include oncology care, which is services relating to cancer.

We offer many internal medicine and oncology services, and have team members with a great deal of experience in this area.

Cardiology

Cardiology focuses on treating issues relating to the heart and cardiovascular system in pets.

We have knowledgeable team members with a specific interest and further qualifications in this area, as well as diagnostic equipment for carrying out ECGs (electrocardiograph), digital x-rays, holter monitoring, echocardiography, bronchoscopy and lung biopsies.

Diagnostic imaging

To help us diagnose any issues or health conditions in pets, we have extensive in-house diagnostic facilities at our referral centre in St Helens.

Our diagnostic offering includes CT and MRI scans, as well as x-ray and ultrasound.

We also provide an interpretation service, meaning that we can talk you through your pet’s scans or x-rays and what they mean.

Neurology

Neurology focuses on the brain, spinal cord and nervous system.

Neurological conditions don’t always require surgery, as treatment options such as physiotherapy can help to improve a pet’s quality of life long-term.

Our practice is a neurosurgery and spinal trauma centre, and we run a 24/7 referral service for all types of neurosurgical cases.

Our onsite MRI, CT and physiotherapy facilities also mean that we can investigate any issues efficiently and offer rehabilitation.

Physiotherapy and hydrotherapy

We work with Equine and Canine Solutions, a leading veterinary physiotherapy practice in the North West.

Led by Rachel Greetham, an experienced and respected physiotherapist, their team of physios are all fully chartered human physiotherapists, as well as Category A ACPAT members (the high standard for veterinary physiotherapy).

They treat a wide variety of orthopaedic and neurological conditions, including post-operative cases as well as long term problems, and use various manual therapies and electrotherapy, alongside prescribing individually tailored exercise programs, to promote recovery from injuries.

Treatments can include a combination of hydrotherapy and physio-led sessions to help achieve the best possible outcome for patients.
